Making Progress

Progress?

Ran the Day ohn Day 10k on Saturday morning, 37:38 1st place.
Watched Mark Dolph run away from me in the first 5k. He went through the 5k  finish chute (18:06) so it remains unknown if I would have reeled him in on the 2nd loop if he would have continued on.  I was around 18:25-30 as I ran by. There will be plenty of other opportunities to size up my comeback. Still way short in the speed department. Not planning any track work until August
Entered the Tulsa Run befor the rates go up. Got my USATF card so I'm officially entered in the Masters 15k National Championship. Yikes!
Ran home from work this evening (11 miles)
39 for the week.

Moore Tornado

Ran 7 miles this morning. Biked 18 this afternoon. Just as I got done with my ride I turned on the television to see that Moore got blasted by an F-4 or bigger tornado. Total devastation in highly populated area. My thoughts are with these people.

2nd Week...Full Moon 18:10

Head -wind out on a muggy warm evening. Passed Michael W. in last 1000 along with another guy that seemed to be in my age group(he wasn't as it turned out).
Stukey and Sam were both there.
18:10 isn't what I had in mind but that's where I'm at.
10 miles this morning
34 for the week,50 on bike.weights 2 times.

6 and 6

6 in the hills out and back on Monday. Relatively flat 6 out and back on Tuesday. Planning on 30 mile bike ride tomorrow. Left achilles is a bit sore. better tend to that.

Step One

Cool, calm, low humidity. Perfect conditions. Like in a sterile lab there were no contaminants to obscure the results of my initial test.
Base-line is a bit lower than I expected. 18:10 on a fast course.
Now I know.
It's a long way from where I am to where I'm planning on going.

My plan is to win the Age-graded 15k National Championship for Masters in Tulsa on October 26th then run a sub 3 hour Marathon at the Route 66 in Tulsa in late November.

Strategy: Build running endurance.
Build from current weekly 30 miles to 50-60 miles by September
Bike 2 times a week for strength (10-16 miles)
and once a week for endurance 20-40 miles
Use fartlek and racing as initial intro to speed then start speed training on the
track August 1st, building from 300's and 400's,
               500's and 600's,800's and  1000's
Take part in as many races as practical to get back into a racing state of
                mind (and body).
That's all for now. Seems a bit much but what else do I have to do!

Wake-up!

Since my last post I have run 78 miles, biked 185 miles.
Not that much for a 6 week period, but an important change has taken place.
I have awakened to clear-headed thinking for the first time in a long time.

Prior to this awakening, I had used injury and aging as excuses to be lazy and disconnected from some things that are very important to me.
I have spent too much money (but more importantly) too much time in the casino.
It is a dark place with no purpose and no future.
And that is my message. I am now back on a road that is familiar.
I have truly awakened and I am certain that the wasted life is now behind me.
All that I have been through will serve as a motivator to run away from that darkness.
Time will prove that what I am saying here is the truth.
Time and truth.
Just watch.
