INOLA 8K RESULTS

AMY 1ST OVERALL 39:47 Fantastic job Amy O!
PETE 1ST OVERALL 28:00
The race starterd with a young guy bolting out like he was in a foot race. He really had it in high gear and was pulling away for 2kilometers before he settled into a pace that looked comfortable. He had built a 2 t0 3 hundred meter lead. At the 3k mark I saw a definite slowing of leg turnoverAt the 4k mark I could tell I had a chance to engage in a race for 1st place and by 5000 meters I was right on his tail. I drafted off him to the 6k mark. That's when I decided to make a move to take the lead. I made it quick and decisive. I listened for a response. I didn't hear a quickened pace nor did I feel him at my heals. I continued to push the pace to the next turn before I took a quick look back. I had opened up a 15 to 20 second lead with a thousand meters to go. I put my head down and pushed again for a couple hundred meters before I gave it one more check. I had it won if I just maintained a comfortable finishing kick. I had won it again. that makes 12 or 13 times I've won at Inola. This race was not much different from many of them. Typically younger runners push the pace a little too hard early and pay for it when it's crunch time. Matt Rogers of Derby Kansas is a very good runner. I feel fortunate to have out run him. At 52 there's not too many more Open wins left in me. But then again who knows?

freewheel partial, 6 mile run

Met up with Margret a little south of Slick,OK. rode in to Bristow. had a nice ride of 20 or so miles. Margret seemed determined to see it through even tho she'd come across some difficulties. Rain, hills, hand injury, flat tires, loneliness.
Late evening run of 6 miles. ready for Inola 8k if it doesn't storm us out.

Panera Run for Hunger 5K

17:05 on a course in which a strong head wind prevailed during key segments of the race. My effort was good. I had planned on attempting a State Record time (16:50 for age 52 male) but the wind held me back, if not physically, psychologically. I've made some progress in recent weeks so the pursuit of another record does not seem as unrealistic it did only 4 or 5 weeks ago.
Basically I have two and a half months to get the record.
