16 today

I ran 16 miles in unseasonably warm weather this morning.
Everything seems to be coming along just as planned.
2 more 10 milers before the end of the year will get me to 1450 for the year.

Cara called earlier. Said William weighs 9lbs 2oz. He's gaining weight ahead of the norm. He's got a strong appetite.

Christmas firsts

This was the first Christmas Cara did not wake up at our house. She did come over in the early afternoon, bringing William over for his first Christmas. Tom and Cara ate dinner with us as Will slept in the crib next to the dinner table. William is a bundle of cute, sleep, eat and poop.It won't be long before he's running all over the place.
I had planned on a 10 miler today, taking 2 days off then a 16 on Sunday. The inability to find an appropriate window of opportunity has forced a change of plans. I will go 16 tomorrow (since I now have rested 2 days) and 10 on Sunday. Hope it works out. I'm trying to get my long run up to 20 within a month.

A New Level

I have reached a level of fitness that I have not had in at least a couple of years. This has been achieved through a steady diet of 10-14 mile runs for the past 4-5 weeks. This is the pattern of running that got me to this level in the past. It's not blazing speed but an endurance that I can feel. Going beyond 16 miles comfortably is in the works for late December. Probably a 20 miler before mid January.
I know I've got to be smart about carrying this with me. Not just to the starting line of early- in- the- year races. A 'race ready' kind of fitness. Not peaking, just maintaining it and enjoying it.

December

Joe McD got the 12k record posted. I now have the top spot for indiv.male okies. 87.7%
Getting ready for round 2 DECEMBER. Planning on building to 40 miles with maybe an 18 mile long run before months end. I've done a 13, maybe in 2 weeks a 14 or 15 then 2 more weeks 16 to 18. Don't really need to extend to 20 or beyond 'til mid January.Steady through the beginning of the 'teeth of winter' (December 1 through Feb 14). What winter adventures await?
