Going for 12k record

On Saturday, I embark on a new challenge. Something that feels familiar from years passed.
To set a single -age (53) state record for a 12k, I must run under 45:24. This is running around 3:47 per 1000 meters. Weather conditions should not hinder my attempt. I believe I can do this in 44:25 or better.
The record was set in 1984 by SteveBlanchard. I will be running in the Glen Lafarlette Run. The procedes to the race go to a memorial honoring Glen and his great contributions to long distance running in Oklahoma.
I ran 12 strong miles on Tuesday then went to the track on Wednesday evening and ran 6 1000's in 3:38, 3:30, 3:38, 3:31, 3:34, 3:27 . I feel nervous but confident. I will give it my best.

thursday 10

A quick cupo'coffee and out on the moonlit road by 5:20 am Cold foggy start but warmed up comfortably after 5 miles. Reflector strips work well.

Cara called late evening. Worried about baby's weight. I'm sure everything is well.

Route 66 marathon (relay for me) on Sunday. Supposed to be cold.

Today

the sun is not overhead
but sinking in the western sky

I have seen its light
i have felt its heat
when it was at its zenith
and i was at mine

we made a great team
the sun and i
but as they say
all things must die

10 more monday

Cold, damp, late evening 10 miler. Very pleased. Encouraged by the surge of energy I have tapped into as of late. Feel like there truly is hope of getting back to the top if I have a strong winter of training, No reason to doubt that it will happen. Fly Hawk fly!

Running Well!

Once again I can report that I'm getting a good rythm and feeling stronger in my running. Ran 13 this morning and did not feel any real drag in the later stages. In fact I was able to run several miles of car fartlek. Ran 35 last week and 33 this week. I'll be joining 4 others next weel to run the Route 66 marathon relay. I'll be starting it off with a 10k leg. Hopefully I can run under 37! My speed is not up to snuff yet.
Planning on running m w f , then sundays relay. maybe close to 40 miles this week if the 7th grade Foyil tourney doesn't 'foyil' my plans.
