Amy on my mind

While Amy drove back to Norman I rode a 16 miler thinking of where she may be along her way. It's hard to rearrange an empty nest but staying busy and learning new things is helpful. I'm just a sentimental old fool trying to make it through.

9/24 up-date

This week I ran 32 (10,8,14) and biked a 40 miler. lifted twice. Getting stronger.
I've been working mostly the afternoon/evening shift so I've had mornings for fitness activities and sleeping.

Emptiness.....Empty Nest

Amy's first visit back since leaving for college ended 30 minutes ago as she pulled out of the drive way headed back to Norman.
Knowing that she is happy and thriving in her new life makes me smile but I still miss her.
Norman's only 150 miles away but an empty house feels like a deserted island in a vast ocean.

My running is about to take on a transformation.
Sitting around being a sad dad is not an option.
It's a new chapter.
I hate unhappy endings so it's up to me to run and write happy.

My retirement income is ok but not good enough to lay around and eat bon- bons all day.
So I am driving kids by buss to school (requiring a 6am wake-up call)
I also work for Cherokee Nation Entertainment setting up and breaking down tables, chairs, stages, lighting, audio visual equipment and sound systems for meetings, conventions, banquets, weddings and fancy parties. It's hard work, there's a lot to learn and the hours are crazy but I think it is going to be an interesting challenge that is good for a guy in my position.

The trick for me is to learn this new lay-out of time and schedule meaningful work-outs and also have time for sleep and down time.

Retirement is complicated.
